Born in 1951 in St. Louis, MO, I grew up in the Midwest living in Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, New Mexico and Wisconsin before moving to Portland, OR in 1977. Encouraged to explore my interest in art at an early age by my maternal grandfather, I have been making art and painting since I was a child. My musician grandfather, who painted as a hobby, gave me my first set of oil paints when I was about 9 years old. Two empty tubes of Cadmium Red and Cadmium Yellow, as well as a palette knife from that original set have an honored place in my Portland studio.

I studied art and painting at The University of New Mexico, Washington University in St. Louis and The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where I earned my BFA in painting in 1977.

In 1992, I returned to school and earned a master’s degree in education at the University of Portland in 1994. I spent 16 years teaching in the Portland Public Schools.

My passions outside of art are reading, the Pacific NW, yoga, hiking and my children.
